Published on August 25, 2010 under American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
Today, the Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, released the regular season schedule for 2010-11, the 15th anniversary season of the Moose.
For the first time since 2006, the Moose will open the regular season on the road when they face the Peoria Rivermen at the Peoria Civic Center on Friday, October 8th. This will actually mark the second time in franchise history the Moose will open a season against the AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues as they began the 2005-06 campaign with a pair of games in Peoria. The next night, on Saturday, October 9th, the Moose will continue their short season-opening road trip in Rockford with a game against the Ice Hogs, the AHL affiliate of the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.
Manitoba will then open the home half of their 15th anniversary schedule with four consecutive games against North Division rivals. On Friday, October 15th and Saturday, October 16th, the Moose will host the Grand Rapids Griffins. Then on Thursday, October 21st and Friday, October 22nd, they will look to exact some revenge on the Hamilton Bulldogs when Hamilton returns to MTS Centre for the first time since ousting the Moose in the North Division Semi-Final last spring.
This season, the Moose will once again play each rival within the AHL's North Division as they will face the Abbotsford Heat (Calgary), the Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal), the Rochester Americans (Florida), and the Toronto Marlies (Toronto) eight times each (four home games, four road games), while they will face the Lake Erie Monsters (Colorado) four times (two home games, two road games). Manitoba will also play each member of the AHL's West Division four times each (two home games, two road games), including one of the AHL's expansion clubs this season - the Oklahoma City Barons (Edmonton). Other members of the West Division include the Chicago Wolves (Atlanta), the Houston Aeros (Minnesota), the Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville), Peoria (St. Louis), Rockford (Chicago), the San Antonio Rampage (Phoenix), and the Texas Stars (Dallas). This season, the Moose will once again play a pair of opponents from the AHL's Eastern Conference as they will face the two-time defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins four times each.
The Moose will enjoy eight "home stands" this season as well as 10 "road trips". The team will play six separate "three-games-in-three-nights" scenarios this season. Manitoba's busiest month this year is the month of March when the team will play 15 games in 30 days. The Moose will play a season-high eight games at home. Manitoba's busiest month on the road will be February when the team plays eight games away from MTS Centre.
Manitoba will once again play a majority of their games on the weekend with Friday being their busiest day of the week (14 home games, 11 away games) while Saturday will also see a total of 21 games (10 home games, 11 away games).
The Moose will host the Chicago Wolves for the third time in 15 years for their annual New Year's Eve contest on Friday, December 31st at 4:00 p.m. Manitoba's home schedule this season also includes three other matinee affairs, beginning with two games against the Abbotsford Heat on January 23rd and March 27th as part of the new "AHL on CBC". While those games will face-off at 12 noon, the Moose will also host the Texas Stars on March 20th at 2:00 p.m at MTS Centre. All other Moose home games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
