ABBOTSFORD BC - The pallets of food stacked in a warehouse in West Abbotsford may have seemed overwhelming to any other group of volunteers but the members of the Abbotsford Heat are no stranger to hard work.

The team, including players, coaches and front office staff spent hours sorting food for the Abbotsford Food Bank and learning more about the need in our community.

Along with only being halfway to their monetary goal of $500,000, over 700 families in the Abbotsford area have signed up for the Christmas Bureau this year alone.

"There is a huge need here and we are grateful for the extra hands provided by the Abbotsford Heat volunteers," said warehouse coordinator Lynden Pennell. Added Dave Murray, Abbotsford Food Bank coordinator, "Their involvement sets a positive example to other organizations and demonstrates the value of giving back."

This event caps off a month's worth of efforts by the Abbotsford Heat team and their fans in support of the Abbotsford Food Bank, including a teddy bear toss and collection held at their December 10th game. "This has been great opportunity to bring our people together to contribute to the health and well-being of our city," said Jennifer Metcalf, Community Relations Manager for the Abbotsford Heat. "We truly are invested here and want to do what we can to make a difference."
