Adirondack Phantoms News Release
GLENS FALLS, NY -- With the holiday season upon us, the Adirondack Phantoms and the state Labor Department have teamed up to spread a little holiday cheer to unemployed residents of the three-county area. The Phantoms, the AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, have made 2,000 tickets available for the December 29 game against the Manchester Monarchs at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Unemployed residents can pick up vouchers at Queensbury, Ballston Spa and Washington County One-Stop Career Centers. The limit is one voucher per customer (worth two tickets each).
The tickets come from the team's Phantoms Friends program. Phantoms sponsors, season ticket holders and fans have donated thousands of tickets to the Phantoms Friends ticket bank. The team is very pleased to distribute the seats on behalf of Miller Mechanical Services, TD Bank, CR Bard, First Niagara Bank and Associates of Glens Falls.
There are more than 13,000 unemployed residents in Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. The unemployment rate in the three-county region is 7.1 percent.
State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner said, "This is truly a wonderful treat for the unemployed and their families. I'd like to personally thank the Adirondack Phantoms for this tremendous gesture of goodwill this holiday season. Thousands in the three-county area are suffering as a result of unemployment. Many of them are making the tough choice between paying bills and buying presents for their children for the holidays. The game on December 29 gives every one of them the opportunity to forget their troubles for a night and watch some tremendous professional hockey, courtesy of the Adirondack Phantoms."
Adirondack Phantoms Vice President Mike Thompson said, "Our commitment to this community remains steadfast and we certainly hope this gesture can put a few smiles on the faces of our neighbors that are struggling in this tough economy. We wish everyone a happy holiday and a very positive New Year!"
Not only will the unemployed receive tickets to see this great team, but they also will get excellent career services from dedicated staff at our One-Stop Career Centers. Services include information about On-the-Job Training, electronic job-matching through SMART 2010 software, and workshops on resume writing and career counseling.
