New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - It was a long, grueling night at Yogi Berra Stadium, as the New Haven County Cutters scored early and scored big, shredding the New Jersey Jackals by a final score of 12-2.

The Cutters wasted no time getting started on their offensive slaughtering, which saw them pound out 17 hits. They batted around their lineup in the top of the 1st, leaving the Jackals in a 5-0 hole before they ever came up to bat. CF Marcus Nettles led-off the game with a bunt single, and then added to his league-leading stolen base total (40) by easily nabbing 2nd. This put him in scoring position, and 2B Jose Delgado made it 1-0 New Haven on just the 2nd at-bat of the game, tripling into RF. 3B Jeremy Terni added an RBI double, followed by older brother SS Chas Terni whacking a 2-run homerun over the lower wall in LF-CF. 1B Chris Gaskin made it back-to-back jacks, capping the 5-run 1st inning.

The Jackals, meanwhile, were 1-hit through 5 innings by Cutters RHP Justin Knoff (7-5). The offense struggled for the 2nd consecutive game, only being slightly redeemed by a 2-run blast by SS Guillermo Reyes in the home half of the 8th that landed on the RF lawn. At that point, though, it was far too little, too late.

New Haven dwarfed their 5-run opening inning with a 6-run 5th, started by a moonshot by DH Derrick Gibson, who launched a solo homer that soared out of the ballpark. Back-to-back base hits put runners on the corners, and chased Jackals RHP Aaron Myers (4-8) out of the game. RHP Mike Vicaro was welcomed into the contest by Chas Terni, who punched a 3-run homerun off the scoreboard, his 2nd bomb of the game. A passed ball and an RBI single to LF by Gibson on his 2nd at-bat of the inning made it 11-0 by the time Vicaro escaped from the inning by striking out LF Horace Lawrence. C Sandy DeLeon's single in the 6th brought home Jeremy Terni, finally marking the end of the bleeding, and leaving the score at 12-0 until the Jackals got on the board with Reyes' shot in the 8th.

In taking the loss for the Jackals, Myers gave up 8 earned runs on 10 hits over 4 innings pitched. He did whiff 6 Cutters batters, while walking only 1. Knoff earned the victory for New Haven, lasting 7.1 innings and allowing 6 hits and 2 runs, striking out 5 while walking 3.

The weekend series continues tomorrow night at 7:05, in a game that will be concluded with a Fireworks Extravaganza! Tickets are available, but going fast, so get yours now by calling the Jackals box office, (973) 655-8025.
