August 18, 2006 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Brockton Rox News Release
LYNN, MA-1B Francisco Lebron hit a solo HR to break a 2-2 tie in the third inning and added an RBI single in the fourth while RHP John Kelly earned his league-leading 10th win of the season as the Rox won their fifth straight game by defeating the North Shore Spirit 6-4 at Fraser Field in Lynn, MA. The Rox win ends a six-game Spirit winning streak and evens the season-series between the two rivals at five games. Kelly is the league's first pitcher to win double-digit games and improved to 8-0 in a Rox uniform with the win. CF Brad Rosenblat had a pair of hits and two RBI for Brockton, while RHP Kyle George pitched two scoreless innings for his third save of the season. The Rox are now 19-12 in the second half (43-34 overall) while North Shore falls to 19-11 in the second half and 44-30 overall.
Both teams exchanged a pair of unearned runs in the first. With two outs, C Jason Radwan drove a two-run single through the left side to give Brockton an early lead, but the advantage was short lived. With runners at the corners and two outs in the bottom of the first, Kelly was able to get 2B Ricardo Cordova to pop up in front of the plate. However, the Rox could not make the catch, as the ball fell to the ground and a run scored. DH Jeff Brooks tied the game later in the frame with an RBI single.
In the third, Lebron led off the inning with a line-drive HR over the left-center field wall to give the Rox the lead. With two on and one out later in the frame, Rosenblat smoked a single over the third baseman's head to plate both runs. Lebron drove home another run an inning later off Spirit LHP Joey Siak with an RBI single. The Spirit chipped away at the lead with a run in the fourth against Kelly and another in the seventh against RHP Edwin Morel. George pitched a 1-2-3 eighth while striking out two in the ninth to earn the save.
The Rox and Spirit continue the three-game series tomorrow but move to Campanelli Stadium for the first pitch at 7:05 PM.
