Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY - The Tri-City ValleyCats picked up a 1-0 win over the Vermont Lake Monsters in 10 innings, thanks to a game winning walk by Jake Adams to secure the win. Reggie Johnson (4-0) picked up the win in relief, while Marc Berube (2-2) suffered the loss.
The 'Cats carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, before Iolana Akau recorded a single off Carlos Hiraldo. Starter Tyler Ivey dominated, going four and two third innings of hitless baseball, while striking out three. Diogenes Almengo and Carlos Hiraldo combined for four and a third innings of one hit baseball to get it to extra innings. In extra innings, Reggie Johnson took over, going a scoreless inning and striking out three batters.
The Lake Monsters also received strong pitching, allowing just three hits over the first nine innings. Wyatt Marks, Parker Dunshee, Logan Salow and Marc Berube combined for 13 strikeouts over the first nine innings. Each had success against every 'Cats batter with the exception of Bryan De La Cruz, who recorded two of the three hits, with one being a triple.
The 'Cats finally got on the board when J.J. Matijevic picked up a double in the bottom of the tenth, then proceeded to advance to third base on a wild pitch. Adrian Tovalin drew a walk, then Michael Papierski was intentionally walked to get to Adams. Adams was able to draw the walk and end the game for the 'Cats.
The 'Cats will now host Vermont for the series finale on Tuesday morning at 11:00 am. It's Camp Day at the Joe! You can purchase your tickets online at tcvalleycats.com/tickets.
