A sellout, for openers
February 1, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New York Dragons News Release
Four days before the Dragons' 2005 season opener, the game is a virtual sellout.
There are fewer than 200 tickets available for the Dragons' opener against Dallas on Sunday at 1:00 pm at Nassau Coliseum. The buzz surrounding Weylan Harding's team, led by all-time AFL passer Aaron Garcia and a juggernaut offense, is clearly spreading.
"That's tremendous news," said Harding, when told of the sellout. "I've been in the AFL long enough to know how much a great crowd can make a difference. It's fantastic to hear the Coliseum is going to be packed."
Capacity at the Coliseum for AFL games is usually just under 12,000. However, with the overwhelming demand for tickets to the opener, the tarps in the upper deck endzones will be taken down to accommodate more fans. The Dragons are expecting a crowd of more than 14,000 for Sunday's game.
