ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 1) -- Orlando Predators Defensive Specialist Damon Mason was named the Arena Football League's "ADT Defensive Player of the Week" for his play against the Colorado Crush in the Predators season-opening 39-36 win.

Mason posted a game-high 11 tackles with an interception and two pass defenses during the game. He played a key role in the game, batting down two passes on Colorado's last drive. He also prevented a touchdown on a pass interference penalty with 11 seconds remaining.

"Our defense bailed us out on Sunday," Orlando Predators Head Coach Jay Gruden said. "And Damon Mason played a big role in that defense. Colorado has some very talented receivers and anytime you hold a team like that to less than 40 points, its puts you in position to win the game. With a few exceptions, Damon and the rest of our defense did a pretty solid job of not giving up the big plays."

It was the first time that Mason, a former three-time All-Arena selection, has been honored with an AFL weekly award.

In a related announcement, the AFL named Philadelphia WR/LB Sean Scott the "US Army Ironman of the Week" and Tampa Bay's Shane Stafford its "Offensive Player of the Week." Scott had 6 receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns on offense to go with 6.5 tackles and a forced fumble on defense in Philadelphia's 66-35 win over Austin. Stafford threw for 273 yards and eight touchdowns with no interceptions as Tampa Bay pounded defending league champion San Jose, 63-33.
