Nashville Kats News Release

NASHVILLE (Feb. 1, 2005) – The Nashville Kats have made a switch at the backup quarterback spot, activating second-year player Tony Zimmerman, who backed up Adrian McPherson last season with the Indiana Firebirds, from the team's Refused To Report list.

Zimmerman (6'3, 220) was picked up off waivers from the Philadelphia Soul last week. He was added to the active roster today. With Indiana, Zimmerman completed 29 of 55 passes for 292 yards and four touchdowns.

The Duquesne grad spent two years in af2 before joining the AFL. During 2003, Zimmerman was named the af2 Offensive Player of the Year and first team National Conference quarterback that season while with the Quad City Steamwheelers. During 2003, Zimmerman set the af2 single-season record with 93 touchdown passes and he completed 286-of-512 pass attempts for 4,357 yards. In 2002, Zimmerman had thrown a league-high 36 touchdown passes before he was sidelined with a broken leg for the remainder of the season.

To make room for Zimmerman, the Kats released QB Anthony Buich. The second-year AFL quarterback dressed for the season opening victory at Columbus, but did not play. Buich had played the 2004 season with Grand Rapids.

The Nashville Kats host the New Orleans VooDoo this Friday in their home opener. Tickets are available at the Gaylord Entertainment Center box office and at all Ticketmaster outlets. They are also available by phone at 615-255-9600 or online at ticketmaster.com.
