
A Grand 12-9 Win for the Nuts

San Jose, C.A. - Shane Hoelscher crushed a grand slam to help lead the Modesto Nuts to a 12-9 victory over the San Jose Giants on Saturday night at Municipal Stadium.
The Nuts (8-8) plated five in the first two innings, but a pair of home runs brought the Giants (6-8) back to within two.
In the top of the sixth, Shane Hoelscher whacked a grand slam to cap a five run frame. The Nuts third baseman drove in five runs and went 2-for-4.
The Giants came back in the bottom of the sixth and Jose Vizcaino, Jr. crushed a three-run blast to make things interesting.
Luis Niebla (S, 1/1) came on and stabilized the game by working the final three innings to close out the win for the Nuts.
D.J. Snelton (L, 1-1) started for the Giants and worked five innings, allowed nine hits, walked two and struck out three.
Nuts starter Yency Almonte (W, 2-0) started the game and went five-plus innings allowing ten hits and six runs while walking none and striking out four.
The Nuts go for a series victory on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a four-game series against the Giants.
