Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - A late home run by Henry Castillo gave the Rawhide the edge they needed to beat out the Quakes, with Visalia downing Rancho Cucamonga by a score of 5-4 on Friday night, in front of a sold-out crowd of 4891 at LoanMart Field.

Castillo broke a 4-4 tie with an opposite-field homer off Scott Griggs in the ninth, putting Visalia ahead to stay.

In the last of the ninth, Rancho had an opportunity, as Jordan Tarsovich reached on an infield-hit. Rawhide closer Jimmie Sherfy attempted to pick off Tarsovich with one out, but threw it down the right-field line. Tarsovich took off and tried to move up to third base, but was gunned down on a great throw by first baseman Cody Regis for the second out. Pinch-hitter Johan Mieses walked, but Andrew Toles grounded out to end the game, giving Sherfy his third save.

Rancho scored early, when back-to-back-to-back hits in the first put two on the board. However the Rawhide's SP Ethan Elias did not allow another hit over the next five innings.

Trevor Oaks managed to minimize damage early, allowing only two runs to score on 11 hits through six innings. The Rawhide attacked early in the count when facing Oaks, plating one in the second on a double-play, and another in the sixth on a double by Henry Castillo.

The Rawhide took their first lead of the night, as A.J. Vanegas walked two in the seventh and gave up a run on a single by Domingo Leyba before Kyle Hooper came in to get the last two outs of the inning on five pitches.

The Quakes managed to tack on another two in the seventh on the Hide's bullpen, when Erick Mejia roped a two-run triple to retake the lead at 4-3.

Hooper gave up a run in the eighth and then Griggs (0-1) got taken deep in the ninth, as Visalia stopped their three-game skid.

Despite a hat trick, a first-inning RBI single extended Kyle Garlick's hitting streak to five games.

Griggs had allowed only one hit in four innings prior to Friday's game.

Andrew Sopko (0-0) will toe the rubber for Rancho Cucamonga to face off with the Rawhide's Bo Takahashi (0-0).
