Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Stockton, CA- The Stockton Ports stunned the Inland Empire 66ers with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory at Banner Island Ballpark on Friday. The 66ers led 2-1 entering the bottom of the ninth but Stockton had four straight hits against Inland Empire (3-13) closer Eduardo Paredes (0-2) with James Harris delivering a game-winning RBI single to win it. It was Harris' third hit of night and evened the four-game series at one win apiece.

The 66ers took a lead in the first when Jose Briceno drove in David Fletcher with a sac fly against Stockton (8-7) starter Zack Ervin. Neither started figured in the decision as Ervin went five frames with five Ks. Inland Empire starter Jake Jewell tossed four scoreless innings allowing two hits, three walks and striking out six men.

Both bullpens were stout but Inland Empire got a run in the sixth against Ports lefty Matt Stalcup when Zach Houchins delivered an RBI single scoring Taylor Ward who had singled earlier in the frame. The RBI gave Houchins a team best 11 RBI and IE a 2-0 lead. The Ports got on the board when Seth Brown tagged a solo shot to right, his first dinger of the year to make it 2-1. Ben Bracewell (1-1) held the Sixers down in the top of the ninth for Stockton and set up the comeback.

Argenis Raga singled on Paredes' first pitch of the night. Seth Brown then sent a double over defensive replacement Tim Arakawa's head in left to tie the game 2-2. Melvin Mercedes bunted for a base hit moving Brown to third and Harris delivered his game-winner to take the game 3-2. Ryan Sebra had Inland Empire's only extra base hit in the affair, a fifth inning double.

The series continues on Saturday at 7:10 in Stockton. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
