CLEVELAND, OHIO - Hamilton Bulldogs forward Gabriel Dumont scored the only goal of the shootout as the 'Dogs (6-7-0-3) snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters (8-6-0-1) at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday evening.
Hamilton struck first at 7:34 of the first period on the power play when defenceman Nathan Beaulieu notched his first goal of the season, assisted by forwards Martin St. Pierre and Nick Tarnasky.
Lake Erie forward Garrett Meurs replied at 7:56 of the second period to tie the game 1-1, with assists going to forward Mark Olver and defenceman Mikael Tam.
On a delayed penalty call and with Bulldogs goaltender Dustin Tokarski on the bench for an extra attacker, forward Louis Leblanc jumped into the play as the sixth skater and swiftly fired a wrist shot past Monsters goaltender Calvin Pickard to put the 'Dogs ahead again, 2-1, at 14:27 of the second period. Defencemen Greg Pateryn and Morgan Ellis drew assists on the play.
Former Bulldog and current Monsters forward J.T. Wyman scored shorthanded 5:30 into the third period to tie the game 2-2, with an assist to forward Brad Malone.
The two teams carried the 2-2 tie through overtime before Dumont scored the only goal of the shootout to seal the victory for Hamilton.
Tokarski made 28 saves on 30 shots in the Bulldogs net in the win. Pickard made 33 saves on 35 shots for the Monsters in the loss.
Hamilton went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Lake Erie went 0-for-4.
