Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers will wear throwback uniforms from the 1941 Jamestown Falcons in Friday night's game to honor the 70th anniversary of Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park.
The Jammers will wear the replica uniforms and hats designed by Wilson and New Era for the game against the Aberdeen Ironbirds Friday. Then, the jerseys and hats will be auctioned off after the game with proceeds going to the Chautauqua County Sports Hall of Fame, who is also the night's sponsor.
"Our Lucille Ball uniforms were a huge hit last year, and we wanted to do something extra special to celebrate our historic year," Jamestown Jammers general manager Matt Drayer said. "The Hall of Fame approached us about doing something to honor the team, and we decided that the throwback uniforms were the perfect way to mark the occasion."
In addition to the special uniforms, the oldest surviving member of the original Falcons and former Major Leaguer John O'Neil will throw out the ceremonial ï¬Ârst pitch at the game.
"It is a privilege and honor to have John O'Neil throw out the ï¬Ârst pitch," Drayer added. "He has left a tremendous baseball legacy in the city of Jamestown. His contributions as the shortstop of the 1941 PONY League champions and as general manager of the Jamestown Tigers are huge parts of the 70-year legacy of Diethrick Park."
Finally, posters that celebrate all 92 program covers that have been produced by the inhabitants of Diethrick Park will be available for $10 apiece with only 100 being produced. The poster also highlights every major league afï¬Âliate of the teams at Diethrick Park - the Florida Marlins, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals and Montreal Expos.
The Jamestown Jammers are the short-season single A afï¬Âliate of the Florida Marlins, and the team is owned and operated by Rich Products Corporation.
To get tickets for Friday night's game, call the front ofï¬Âce at (716) 664-0915. Gates open at 6 p.m., and ï¬Ârst pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
