Matt Marquardt Reassigned To Reading Royals
February 25, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League's Boston Bruins have reassigned forward Matt Marquardt from Providence to the Reading Royals of the ECHL. With the move, the P-Bruins have 26 players on their roster, including 15 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders.
Marquardt, 22, has spent the majority of the season in Providence, tallying 10 points, including one goal and nine assists, in 42 games. The second-year pro enjoyed nine games with the P-Bruins during his latest AHL run after being reassigned to Rhode Island on February 3. This move marks Marquardt's third trip to Reading, where he has one goal, two assists and 14 penalty minutes in six contests with the Royals.
As a rookie last season, Marquardt suited up for 71 regular season games for Providence, recording nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points. The left wing added one goal and one assist in nine postseason outings after missing 11 straight games in April due to injury. Prior to turning pro, Marquardt enjoyed four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Moncton Wildcats and Baie-Comeau Drakkar. The North Bay, Ontario, native was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets 194th overall in round seven of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft before later being traded to Boston for defenseman Jonathan Sigalet on May 27, 2008.
The P-Bruins return to action with two games this weekend, both on the road. Providence is at the Binghamton Senators on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. start, and then the P-Bruins take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, also for a 7:05 p.m. tilt. Providence's next four games are on the road before the club returns home to host the Manchester Monarchs at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, March 5 for Sport Bottle Night. Sport bottles are free to the first 2,000 fans.
