Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - Felipe Paulino did the bulk of the work and Mark Saccomanno did his best to reward the right-hander Tuesday.
Paulino tossed four no-hit innings and held Omaha to one run over seven innings before the Express evened the game 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth. With Tommy Manzella on second and one away in the ninth, Saccomanno punched a single past a pulled-up infield to give Round Rock a 2-1 win, snapping a four-game skid.
Edwin Maysonet and Yordany Ramirez posted a pair of hits each to lead the Express.
Trailing 1-0 to start the bottom of the eighth, Maysonet hammered a sharp liner to left off reliever Carlos Rosa. The ball caromed out of the glove of a streaking Chris Lubanski, allowing Maysonet to pull in safely at second.
Yordany Ramirez slapped a single past second base an out later, pushing Maysonet across to even the score. The drive gave Ramirez his second multi-hit game in a row and five in two days.
Facing Rosa in the bottom of the ninth, Manzella led off with a double off the base of the right field wall. An out later, Saccomanno lined a broken-bat single up the middle to seal the game.
Paulino, who picked up a no decision, carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning before Chris Lubanski led off with a single past second base. Paulino fanned the next two hitters, but Luis Hernandez singled and Mitch Maier followed with an RBI double to give the Royals their only run.
Paulino struck out six against four hits and two walks over seven innings, trimming his ERA to 0.75 through two starts. The Express walked fewer than six batters (3) for the first time this season.
Ryan Bannister tossed seven scoreless frames for the Royals, scattering three hits and strikeout out four without a walk.
Round Rock (1-5) narrowly avoided dropping five straight for the first time since the team suffered through six straight May 7-12 last season. The Express plays host to Omaha (5-1) in the third of a four-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond.
