Mike Angelidis Named OHL Humanitarian of the Year
April 20, 2006 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Ontario Hockey League has announced that Mike Angelidis has been named the 2005-2006 recipient of the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy as the OHL Humanitarian of the Year. He is the first member of the Owen Sound franchise to win this prestigious award.
"Angie" visited many public schools and minor hockey teams throughout the season but the highlight was the Bell Skills Competition in February. While visiting the Disabled Learning Unit at Beavercrest Community School in Markdale, Mike became friends with T.J. Walton. Mike decided right then that he wanted to do something to support the Disabled Learning Units of schools in Grey and Bruce counties. Bell jumped on board and paid all expenses for the night and the community responded by donating more than $5,500 to the cause. Mike Angelidis will also receive a special award from the Bluewater District School Board later this year to recognize his accomplishments.
The Humanitarian of the Year Trophy was first awarded during the 1992-93 season. The name of the award was changed for the 2004-2005 season in honour of former Owen Sound Platers captain Dan Snyder who passed away tragically as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in September, 2003. Dan was a role model both on and off the ice. Snyder, who played four seasons in Owen Sound, was twice named the team's humanitarian of the year in recognition of his tremendous efforts in supporting community activities.
Congratulations Mike Angelidis!
