Daytona Tortugas News Release

Staying with the chaos theme around Jackie Robinson Ballpark lately, we have some more news for our fans. What we hope is great news, especially for our fans on the West side of Volusia County.

Wednesday & Thursday’s home games that had temporarily been relocated to be played at Vero Beach have now been relocated to Melching Field at Conrad Park in Deland. This is the current facility of Stetson University and is a great alternative to playing games on the road, until Jackie Robinson Ballpark is put back into shape.

The City of Deland and Stetson University have welcomed the Daytona Cubs with open arms to Melching Field at Conrad Park. Here is a breakdown of the Cubs upcoming week:

Tuesday: DH beginning at 10:00 AM in Jupiter

Wednesday: 7:00 PM start in Deland

Thursday: DH beginning at 5:00 PM in Deland (second game at 7:00 PM or later)

Making Thursday’s game at Stetson an even greater event, will be the rescheduling of the Cubs Team Photo Give-Away. The first 1,000 fans through the gates on Thursday will receive a FREE Team Photo courtesy of Verizon Wireless.

The Cubs staff is picking up shop and heading to Stetson University’s home for the next couple of days. Stetson University will handle all concession operations, with the Daytona Cubs handling all other ballpark operations.

All ticket that are valid at Jackie Robinson Ballpark will also be valid in Deland on Wednesday & Thursday. Season ticket stubs will be taken at the gate, just as they are at ‘The Jack’. Ticket will also be the same as at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

All general admission tickets will be $5.00, with few VIP’s available at $8.00 each. An addition to the Cubs ticket prices for these two games will be student tickets, which will only be $2.00 each with a student ID.

The Cubs will be selling merchandise throughout the ballpark and all of our fans favorite on-field and in-game contests will take place in Deland.

For those fans that have never been to Melching Field at Conrad Park, this is a great opportunity to see the beautiful facility that Stetson University has. Professional Baseball under the lights in Deland once again! For those of you that can remember back, Deland was home to many Minor League Baseball Clubs over the past century.

It’s less than a 30 minute drive from Daytona Beach and is located just off of I4 and US92 in downtown Deland. We are expecting some good crowds to the ballpark in Deland, with their long history and love of baseball. Contact the Cubs at 386-257-3172 to purchase your tickets and have them left at will-call.

Thanks again to the City of Deland and Stetson University for working with the Cubs on this one and again, the Cubs will now host the Vero Beach Dodgers on Wednesday and Thursday evening’s at Melching Field at Conrad Park in Deland.

**On another note: The City of Daytona Beach plans to have Jackie Robinson Ballpark back in shape for our next night game at home on Monday, August 30th. This will give them time to handle the most important issues facing the city right now and leave time to take care of our ballpark in the next week and a half.
