Daytona Cubs to play in Deland
Due to unplayable field conditions because of Hurricane Charley at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, the Daytona Cubs Professional Baseball Team will be playing both scheduled home games for Wednesday and Thursday at Melching Field in Deland, Florida.
Season ticket holders and tickets purchased in advanced for both games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday will be honored at the front gate. Tickets will be on sale at the Melching Field ticket office, for $5 general admission and $2 for all Stetson students with a valid student ID card. Daytona Cubs merchandise will be on sale in the concourse area at the ballpark.
"We would first like to thank the city of Deland for graciously offering Melching Field as a venue to hold these two home game," General Manager Michael Swope said. "With the condition of Jackie Robinson Ballpark, we hope to have everything in place by our next home game (August 30). We are still upholding our main mission in providing the best quality family entertainment, but this time to our fans in western Volusia County."
Game Times are:
Wednesday August 18 (Gates open at 5 PM, with a scheduled start of 7 PM)
Thursday August 19 (Gates open at 4 PM, with the first game of a doubleheader scheduled for 5 PM. The second game will follow 30 minutes prior to the first and will not begin before 7 PM)
Directions to Melching Field:
From Orlando/Tampa (I-4 East)
Take the firstDeLand Exit (114) and turn left on State Road 472. Travel approximately three miles and fork right onto Highway 17/92, which becomes Woodland Boulevard. Pass through five stop lights. Melching Field at Conrad Park will be on the right at the corner of Woodland and Hubbard.
From Jacksonville (I-95)
Take the Speedway Blvd. Exit (261B from the north) and head west approximately 18 miles into DeLand. Turn left on Woodland Blvd. and continue south for approximately four miles, going through the Stetson campus and downtown DeLand. Melching Field at Conrad Park will be on the left at the corner of Woodland and Hubbard.
From Miami (I-95)
Take the State Road 44 Exit (249 from the south) and head west approximately 20 miles into DeLand. State Road 44 turns into New York Ave. Turn left on Amelia Ave. (stop light) and continue through one stop light. Turn right on Hubbard Street (side street) and go two blocks. Melching Field at Conrad Park will be on the right at the corner of Woodland and Hubbard.
From Ocala (I-75)
Take Exit 358 and head east on State Road 326. Travel approximately 15 miles and turn left on State Road 40. Travel approximately 45 miles and turn right on US Highway 17 in Barberville. Travel approximately 15 miles into DeLand as highway 17 becomes Woodland Boulevard. Pass through the Stetson campus and downtown DeLand. Melching Field at Conrad Park will be on the left at the corner of Woodland and Hubbard.
