Delaware Blue Coats News Release
NEWARK, DE.-April 1, 2014- The Delaware 87ers today announced they will host Christiana Care Night in support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) BabyCam initiative when they play the Springfield Armor this Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m.
Christiana Care is equipping special cameras or "BabyCams" to each of the 72 beds of Christiana Hospital's NICU. Christiana Hospital delivers more than 6,500 babies each year and is the region's only delivering hospital with a Level III NICU, which offers the highest level of non-surgical care to the most critically ill newborns.
"We are most grateful for the contributions of our young philanthropists.," said John Stefano, M.D., director of neonatology at Christiana Care Health System. "These BabyCams advance our commitment to patient and family centered care as it gives families access to a live video stream so they can see their newborns. Even when they're not able to be at our hospital, they can stay connected to their babies."
Local children will be honored during the Sevens game for their creative grassroots efforts in helping to raise funds for the NICU BabyCam Initiative. The youth organized varying activities including a calendar fundraiser, karate kick-a-thon and a carwash.
"The Sevens are proud to partner with Christiana Care in recognizing these children and their initiatives for the NICU BabyCam initiative. Their philanthropic efforts embody the selflessness and community spirit of the team's SEVENS STRONG community outreach program. We are honored to work with Christiana Care in celebrating the children's efforts.," said Aaron Moszer, Delaware 87ers President. The Sevens will wear themed green and white Christiana Care jerseys. Fans will have the chance to bid on the game worn jerseys in a silent auction on the concourse during the game. All proceeds, including cash donations, will be donated back to the Christiana Care NICU in support of the BabyCam Initiative.
