Oshawa Generals News Release

Brampton, Ontario - The Generals roll continued on Sunday, as they pushed their winning streak to seven games with a 4-1 victory over the Brampton Battalion in front of 2,445 at the Powerade Centre. The victory was not only the one that extended the streak, but it was the fourth victory for the Generals over the Battalion this season. Daniel Altshuller made the start for Oshawa, and put forth a fantastic showing, making 37 saves for his 36th win on the season. Lucas Lessio scored twice in the game, including the game-winner to push his season total to 15 goals.

The first period was typical Generals hockey, as they controlled the play with a strong fore-check, physical play, and the opening goal. Streaking down the middle of the ice, Scott Laughton made a move to the outside before tossing a pass towards the front of the net, where it was tipped home by Justice Dundas at the 12:35 mark of the period, for his 10th of the year.

The Battalion had a chance to tie the game late, as a wrap-around attempt had Daniel Altshuller out of position, but a strong stick save from defenseman Geoffrey Schemitsch kept the puck from crossing the line.

Penalty trouble in the second for the Generals gave Brampton a chance to get back into the game, but the Generals' penalty-kill put forth a remarkable effort, containing the Battalion attack to the neutral zone, and denied several chances.

The second period looked to be scoreless as time was winding down, but an unassisted effort from Lucas Lessio ensured the Generals would be up by two before the break. As the Brampton defenders left their zone, an aggressive fore-check from Lessio caused a turnover, before he grabbed it and sniped a shot over the corner of Brampton net minder Matej Machovsky with 0:06 seconds left in the period.

Tyler Biggs extended the lead to 3-0 at the 3:49 mark of the period, as he deflected a Will Petschenig point shot through his legs, giving him his 26th marker of the season. Penalty trouble caught up to the Generals again, giving Brampton an extended 5-on-3 advantage, which they capitalized on. A pinching Kyle Wood solved Daniel Altshuller with a quick low shot to cut the Generals lead to 3-1.

Altshuller responded to the momentum change, flashing the leather on Battalion sniper Barclay Goodrow to quiet the house and keep the score in the Generals favour. With a minute and a half remaining, Lucas Lessio used his speed to elude Brampton defenders, and put the game on ice with his second of the game. The Generals won 4-1.

On a rare night, the Generals were outshot, with Brampton recording 38 shots to Oshawa's 33.

Daniel Altshuller (37 saves) and Lucas Lessio (2 goals) were named the first and second stars of the game.

The Generals continue on the road, as they make stops in Belleville and Ottawa before returning home to the General Motors Centre on March 17th as they host the Sudbury Wolves. Puck drop is at 6:05pm.
