Ottawa 67's News Release
OWEN SOUND - For the third time in three games to open the 2019-2020 season, the Ottawa 67's needed a few extra minutes.
And for the third time, the extra time was enough to pick up the win, this time thanks to a Jack Quinn wrist shot in overtime that beat goalie Brendan Bonello to give the 67's a 3-2 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs. The overtime win, which follows a pair of shootout triumphs, gives Ottawa a perfect 3-0 road record to the start the year. The Barber Poles will now look to keep that winning record intact when they host the Peterborough Petes on Sunday afternoon for the first game of the year at The Arena at TD Place.
Will Cranley, making his first start in goal of the young season, made 17 saves in a winning cause, while Bonello turned away 28 Ottawa shots.
Quinn's goal capped a solid, hard-working night for the 67's, who traded goals with the Frontenacs in the second and third periods to force this one into overtime.
After a scoreless opening period, the 67's opened the scoring early in the second as Merrick Rippon scored his first of the season at the 4:06 mark of the period. The Frontenacs would tie things up five minutes later as Nick Wong scored for Kingston to send the teams into the second intermission locked up at a goal apiece.
Graeme Clarke restored Ottawa's lead in the third, picking up a rebound off a missed Rippon shot before sneaking in the wraparound. The lead wouldn't last, however, as Kingston's Zayde Wisdom would even things up once again less than four minutes later.
Puck drop for Ottawa's home opener against Peterborough on Sunday afternoon is set for 2 p.m.
