Ottawa 67's News Release
OTTAWA - The Ottawa 67's started their three-game road trip just the way they wanted to on Thursday night, defeating the Windsor Spitfires 5-4 in overtime for their fourth win of the season.
Mitch Hoelscher's third of the year in the extra frame improved Ottawa's record to 4-1 to start the year, with all of those wins coming in overtime or a shootout.
In a game that never lacked for offensive excitement, the Barber Poles found themselves trailing early on after Windsor's Egor Afanasyev opened the scoring 2:45 into the game. The Spitfires' lead only just under ten minutes, as Jack Quinn tied things up on the power play midway through the opening frame. Graeme Clarke added another goal for the 67's with just a dozen seconds left on the board, giving them a 2-1 lead heading into the second.
Ottawa rookie Brenden Sirizzotti, appearing in his first career OHL game, scored his first career goal in the second period, giving the Barber Poles a 3-1 lead. Windsor's Grayson Ladd made it 3-2, but Jack Quinn gave Ottawa the last word in the second period with his second goal of the game, a shorthanded beauty.
Down 4-2 to start the 3rd, Windsor rallied midway through the period with goals from Will Cuylle and Luke Boka, sending the game to overtime.
Ottawa will carry on with their road trip Friday night in London when they take on the Knights. They will round it out on Sunday afternoon, when the 67's go up against the Kitchener Rangers. The Barber Poles' next home game will be on Friday, October 11th, when they welcome the Mississauga Steelheads.
