Ottawa 67's News Release

Down 3-0 to the Peterborough Petes, late in the third period on Sunday afternoon, the Ottawa 67's did not look like a team on their third game in as many nights, two of which were on the road.

Jack Matier scored with 6:29 remaining to get the Barber Poles on the board, and Brady Stonehouse drew Ottawa within one on the powerplay with 27 seconds to go, but the valiant effort would fall just shy of a comeback victory, as the 67's dropped a 3-2 decision to the Petes. Starting his first OHL game, rookie netminder Max Donoso stopped 26 of 29 shots, holding his team in the contest as the Petes poured it on late.

Peterborough, not having played since Thursday night, found the back of the net twice in the game's first 10 minutes. Mason McTavish opened the scoring 4:30 in, and Emmett Sproule added another just before the 10-minute mark.

The 67's outshot Peterborough 12-7 in the second frame, but couldn't quite get one past Tye Austin in the Petes' net, and Kaspars Ziemins tallied the eventual game winner 8:36 into the period.

No one would have blamed the Barber Poles for not having much in the tank for the third, but the 67's were not about to go quietly in their weekend finale. Ottawa poured it on in the final frame, outshooting the Petes 21-8. 13:31 in, Matier took a pass from Derek Smyth, streaked into the Peterborough zone, and uncorked a laser of a shot that you would have missed had you blinked, bringing the score to 3-1.

With time winding down, the 67's kept up the attack, and drew a penalty with Donoso on the bench for the extra attacker. On the ensuing offensive zone faceoff, Cam Tolnai won it to Matier at the point. His quick shot was stopped, but Stonehouse was posted up at the lip of the crease to cash in on the rebound, and make it a one-goal game.

An icing call against Peterborough in the dying seconds afforded the Barber Poles one last chance to tie the game, but the clock would run out on Ottawa's comeback bid, despite a thrilling finish.

Game Notes:

Brady Stonehouse is on a four-game point streak, with three goals over that span.

Cam Tolnai assisted on both Ottawa goals.

Jack Matier has three points in his last four games.

Adam Varga led the team with seven shots on goal.

Up Next: The 67's are on the road all next weekend, kicking things off with their first meeting with the Niagara IceDogs, Thursday night at 7:00pm EST.
