66ers Take Series from Storm Behind Strong Arms, Homers

Lake Elsinore, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino took the final two games and the series from the Lake Elsinore Storm with Sunday's 5-4 win at The Diamond. Inland Empire (12-12) got back to even-water on the season with the victory that saw Leonardo Rivas and Jordan Zimmerman homer.

Rivas leadoff the game with a solo shot to left off Lake Elsinore starter Tom Cosgrove (1-3) to take a 1-0 advantage out of the shoot. It was Rivas' second straight game with a dinger, he now has three homers on the season. The Storm (11-13) answered with an unearned run off IE starter Kyle Bradish (2-1) and took a lead against the Sixers' righty in the second when Esteury Ruiz singled, stole second, third and came home on Taylor Kohlwey's RBI groundout. Inland Empire would get the runs back and then some in the fifth however as Zimmerman launched a game-tying solo homer off Cosgrove with one out. Alvaro Rubalcaba then tripled, Ryan Scott walked and Rivas' singled giving the 66ers a 3-2 lead. After Torii Hunter Jr. was hit with a pitch, Kevin Williams Jr. drilled a two-run single for a 5-2 lead. Bradish went 5.1 innings, his longest outing of his short career. The Storm scored an unearned run in the sixth against Brett Hanewich and added a run in the ninth against Jorge Tavarez (SV,3) but the Sixers held on. Zane Gurwitz had three hits for the Sixers while Ruiz stole three bases for the Storm.
