66ers Sweep Twin Bill at High Desert

Adelanto, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers and High Desert Mavericks finally got to play baseball games on Tuesday at Heritage Field; the Sixers got to win those contests. After unplayable conditions postponed the first three days of the series (last four days for High Desert's club), the Sixers took game one of a double-header 3-1 and the nightcap 7-6.

The 66ers got strong pitching in the opener from Victor Alcantara who dealt a six innings of four-hit baseball. He allowed just an unearned run in the fourth inning and struck out five batters with three walks. The righty from Santo Domingo improved to 5-7 on the year.

Inland Empire got its two runs in the second inning off High Desert starter Connor Sadzeck (1-1) without a hit. The righty loaded the bases with walks and allowed a run-scoring WP and a RBI-groundout off the bat of Tyler Palmer for the 2-0 lead. In the top of the seventh inning (of a scheduled seven-inning game) Eric Aguilera added an insurance run with his 12th homer of the year. Geoff Broussard closed out the game for the 66ers picking up his tenth save in ten chances with a perfect bottom of the seventh including a pair of Ks.

The 66ers opened game-two with a bang when Palmer opened the contest with his first homer of the season on the second pitch of the game. The 66ers got five innings from starter Harrison Cooney who did not figure in the decision. He allowed three runs on four hits with two Ks and a walk. Solo homers from High Desert's Tripp Martin and Oliver Caraballo tied the game in the fifth and the Mavs got two more in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead off IE reliever Brian Loconsole when Ronald Guzman hit a two-run double.

The 66ers answered with a big top of the seventh with help from the Maverick's pitching staff. Inland Empire got four runs off reliever John Fasola (1-2) with the help of two wild pitches and a passed ball. Angel Rosa doubled for the Sixers in the frame while Bo Way had a RBI single and Andrew Daniel added a RBI groundout for a 7-5 lead. Alan Busenitz allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh but locked down his second save with the Sixers in three tries and a 7-6 win. Brian Loconsole was credited with the win and is now 5-1.

Inland Empire improved to 45-47 on the season and is now 10-12 in the second half (game one counted for IE's first half record as a makeup game. The Mavs are now (46-45, 9-12).
