July 29, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers put up the best night of offense the club has had in 2016 with a 12-3 drubbing of the Lake Elsinore Storm at San Manuel Stadium on Thursday. The 66ers witnessed a season-high with the 12 runs on top of a season-best 19 hits. Both Zach Houchins and David Fletcher contributed four hits in the victory as Fletcher extended his hitting streak in the process to match a California League season-high 21 games.
Inland Empire (34-70, 11-23) unloaded on Storm starter Chris Huffman (9-4) early as the righty allowed six runs, five earned in just two innings of work before being chased. Inland Empire sent eight batters to the plate in each of the first two frames. Inland Empire led 7-0 before the Storm (52-52, 20-14) touched up Inland Empire starter Justin Anderson. The righty gave up three runs in the fifth, two of which were earned with the big hit being Edwin Moreno's two-run double. Moreno finished with two of the Storm's four total hit in the game. Anderson earned the win with six innings of work after having taken losses in his last three outings. He surrendered three hits and three walks with three Ks on 96 pitches to improve to 5-10 on the year. The trio of Jordan Piche', Kevin Grendell and Zach Hartman each tossed scoreless frames to finish the game off.
The offense was humming as Fletcher and Houchins each notched their first four hit games of the year and very player that started for Inland Empire had at least one hit. Hutton Moyer finished with three hits including a double and was also hit by a pitch and drew a walk. Jared Foster had a pair of hits and like Houchins knocked in a game-high three runs. Roberto Baldoquin had two hits for the Sixers while Jeff Boehm and Ayendy Perez clubbed doubles.
The hitting streak by Fletcher matches his own former teammate Tim Arakawa at 21. Arakawa, promoted to Double-A Arkansas on 7/14, was the Sixers' lone Cal League All-Star representative this season.
Angels' outfielder Shane Robinson batted leadoff on a MLB injury rehab finishing 1-for-2 with three walks taken and three runs scored. He is working his way back from an ankle injury.
The series continues Friday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com and 1570 AM KPRO. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
