Lancaster JetHawks News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Drew Ferguson put together a big night, including the go-ahead double in the eighth inning, to help the JetHawks to a 4-3 win over the Bakersfield Blaze on Thursday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Ferguson came to the plate with the game tied 3-3 and a runner at second base in the eighth inning needing a triple for the cycle. He pulled a line drive into left field corner to score Bobby Boyd to give Lancaster a 4-3 lead. Ferguson took a wide turn at second base but pulled up, settling for a double.

Ryan Deemes tossed a scoreless eighth inning and recorded the first two outs in the bottom of the ninth. He gave way to Jacob Dorris with two outs and two on. Dorris struck out Daniel Torres to end the game and pick up his eighth save.

The JetHawks (57-46) came back to tie the game with two runs in the seventh inning. Ferguson led off the inning with an opposite field home run, his eighth homer of the season. Jamie Ritchie later walked with one out and moved to third on a Marc Wik double. With the infield playing up, Brooks Marlow hit a sharp ground ball to second baseman Gianfranco Wawoe. The ball glanced off his glove and rolled away, allowing Ritchie to score without a play.

Scott Weathersby (4-3) earned the win with three dominant innings of relief. He allowed a home run to Drew Jackson but struck out six batters including the final five batters he faced.

Reliever Kody Kerski (2-2) gave up the run in the eighth inning and was tagged with the loss for the Blaze (58-46).

Lancaster starter Rogelio Armenteros battled high pitch counts in his four innings of work. The right-hander allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked one batter.

Lancaster got on the board first on a Wik sac-fly in the second inning against Blaze starter Eddie Campbell. Campbell would end up allowing three runs on five hits over 6.1 innings.

Bakersfield jumped ahead in the third inning on a Tyler Marlette two-run home run.

The win pushed the JetHawks to season-best 11 games over .500 overall and improves their Cal League-best second half record to 22-11.

The four-game series continues with the second game on Friday at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Dean Deetz will start for the JetHawks against Anthony Misiewicz. First pitch is 7:30 p.m.
