Inland Empire 66ers News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - After losing three out of four games in Lancaster over the weekend, the 66ers gave fans a thrilling walk-off, 7-6 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Wednesday night to start a seven-game homestand.
The Sixers had their backs against the wall in the ninth, but a Garett Green hit-by-pitch, wild pitch allowing Preston Mattingly to reach on a strikeout, and Trayvon Robinson walk loaded the bases with one out.
Pedro Baez, battling wild throwing Quakes reliever Ysmael Carmona (0-4, 4.50) to ten pitches, grounded to shortstop Andrew Romine, who threw to second to try for a double play, but Baez beat the high relay throw to first as Mattingly scored the winning run.
Inland Empire starting pitcher Chris Withrow threw 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, with 6 strikeouts.
David Pfeiffer (3-3, 3.92) came in with a man on first and no outs in the ninth and kept the Quakes scoreless and the 66ers within striking distance for the win.
Ryan Brasier pitched well for Rancho Cucamonga, going 7 strong innings and allowing just 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, striking out 5. The quality start by the right-hander was blown by the Quakes bullpen, as Michael Kohn and Carmona allowed a combined 4 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks.
The 66ers will continue the seven-game homestand on a Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark, where fans can get $1 beer and $1 soda while watching some exciting Inland Empire baseball. Mario Alvarez (1-2, 5.08) will be on the mound for the Sixers opposing Jayson Miller (4-5, 4.20) of the Quakes. The game will start at 7:05 p.m., and fans can get tickets at the 66ers' box office at 280 South E Street in San Bernardino or by visiting www.66ers.com.
