Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(ADELANTO, CA) - The JetHawks bats came into a new series with the High Desert Mavericks on a roll, but the Mavs pitchers excelled Wednesday night in a 7-2 win. Lancaster's offense was held to only six hits by a trio of High Desert pitchers.

The Mavs took control early and held the rest of the way. They took advantage of Lancaster defensive lapses to push across two runs in the first inning and four runs in the sixth inning against JetHawks starter Bryan Hallberg. Jose Duran came out of the Lancaster bullpen to throw four scoreless innings of relief, but Lancaster's offense never rallied.

Lancaster got the lead off man on base in each of the first three innings but only scored in the third. J.B. Shuck tripled, his fourth straight game with an extra-base hit. He scored on a ground-out by Marcos Cabral that at the time got Lancaster within one before the Mavericks pulled away. The only other JetHawks run came on a Jon Fixler sacrifice fly in the ninth inning after lead-off singles by Brandon Barnes and David Flores.

The JetHawks continue the series against the Mavericks Thursday night. Leandro Cespedes (4-6) starts for Lancaster against High Desert's J.C. Ramirez (6-5). The game will begin at 7:05 with the radio broadcast carried live on Magic 1340 AM and online at JetHawks.com. The Pre-Game Show starts at 6:50.

The JetHawks return home Sunday, July 19 to begin a six-game homestand against the Stockton Ports and the Lake Elsinore Storm. Great ticket packages, including season tickets and flexible mini-plans, are on sale now for the 2009 season and may be ordered by calling (661) 726-5400.
