THE SAN JOSE GIANTS... winners of nine straight and 16 out of 19 to begin the second half, start a seven-game homestand with the first of four straight contests against the Modesto Nuts Wednesday evening at Municipal Stadium. San Jose won all four games from the host Visalia Rawhide in their most recent series posting victories of 12-3, 6-1, 5-4 and 17-1. It marked the first time this season that the Giants have swept a series on the road. In their last game on Monday, Darren Ford, Thomas Neal and David Maroul each rapped out three hits and connected for a home run to lead the offensive attack. The 17 runs scored matched a season-high while the 16-run differential marked San Jose's largest margin of victory this year.

Season-High Nine-Game Win Streak... San Jose has outscored the opposition by an 81-18 margin during their current season-high nine-game winning streak. The Giants last suffered a defeat on July 4 in a home game against Modesto (5-4). The nine straight wins matches the fifth-longest winning streak in San Jose Giants history (1988, 1998). The longest win streak in team history is 11 games, accomplished in three different seasons (1988, 1993, 1999).

Third-Best Record In Minor League Baseball... San Jose (58-31, .652) currently owns the third-best overall record among full-season teams in all of minor league baseball. The Giants trail only the Low-A Fort Wayne TinCaps (60-28, .682) and the Double-A Birmingham Barons (60-29, .674).

Buster Posey Promoted To Triple-A Fresno... California League All-Star catcher Buster Posey was promoted to Triple-A Fresno yesterday. Posey played in 80 games this season with San Jose and hit .326 with 13 home runs and 58 RBI's. The former first round draft pick also collected 23 doubles, stole six bases and drew a team-high 45 walks. Posey is currently fourth in the league In batting average, fifth in on-base percentage, tied for seventh in RBI's, tied for eighth in doubles and tenth in home runs. He also threw out 49.2% of attempted base stealers (32-of-63) to rank second among California League catchers. The Giants were 46-19 in games Posey started behind the plate.

San Jose Stretches Series Win Streak To 11... The Giants have now won their last 11 series dating back to the first week of June. San Jose's last series loss came in a four-game set at Visalia from May 27-30. The Giants then split a four-game series with Stockton (May 31-June 3) before starting the current run. San Jose owns a 29-6 record in their last 35 games starting on June 5.

Pitching Leaders... The Giants are bidding to lead the California League in ERA for the sixth consecutive season as their 3.17 team earned run average is currently lowest among all teams. San Jose also boasts three out of the top seven pitchers individually in ERA: Craig Clark (3rd - 2.98), Scott Barnes (4th - 3.07) and Clayton Tanner (7th - 3.36). The Giants have shown improvement in their team ERA every month (April - 3,81, May - 3.51, June - 2.83, July - 2.09).

Bullpen Excellence... The Giants bullpen owns a sparkling 0.80 ERA (10 ER/113.0 IP) in the last 37 games (30-7 record) beginning with their contest on June 3. The San Jose bullpen allowed 11 runs in their 16-7 loss at Stockton on June 2 before the current run. Dan Runzler boasts a perfect 0.00 ERA (13.2 IP) since joining the club on June 8 from Augusta while fellow left-hander Wilmin Rodriguez has gone 15 straight appearances without allowing a run (16 1/3 IP). David Mixon has not yielded a run over his last 11 appearances (18 2/3 IP) and Daniel Turpen has been impressive all season with a 1.36 ERA in 30 games. The San Jose bullpen possesses a staggering 0.45 (2 ER/39.2 IP) through 13 games this month.

Tanner To Start Series Opener On The Mound... Clayton Tanner is expected to get the ball for the Giants in Wednesday's series opener marking his sixth start against Modesto over his last 11 appearances. Overall against the Nuts this year, Tanner is 3-2 with a 4.23 ERA (13 ER/27.2 IP) in six games (five starts). He struck out a career-high 13 over seven innings versus the Nuts on June 12 while also taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning against Modesto on May 24 (6 IP, 1 H, 0 R). His most recent appearance while opposing the Nuts came on July 4 - the last time the Giants suffered a defeat - as the left-hander allowed five runs in 5 1/3 innings. Overall, Tanner is 7-3 with a 3.36 ERA.

Modesto Nuts... The Modesto Nuts, an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, enter tonight's match-up with a 47-42 overall record and a 7-12 mark in the second half. Modesto is currently holding onto one of the two wild card playoff spots in the North Division. The Nuts, who have lost eight out of their last nine games played at Municipal Stadium, are eighth in the California League in batting average (.257) and second in ERA (3.86). Right-hander Joey Williamson is slated to make the start on the mound tonight. Williamson is tied for second in the league in wins to go with a 3.63 ERA over 22 games (6 GS).
