Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Adelanto, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers jumped out to a 7-0 lead after 4.5 innings at Heritage Field on Friday and were able to hold off a comeback by the High Desert Mavericks for a 7-6 win. The 66ers got homers from Brandon Bayardi and Tyler Palmer as well as three scoreless innings out of the pen from Ronnie Muck to move one game out of first place in the southern division's second half standings.

Kody Eaves opened the second inning for Inland Empire (58-57, 23-22) with a triple, his tenth, off Mavs starter Reed Garrett (5-4). Bayardi then followed by smashing a two-run homer out to left to give IE a 2-0 lead. Tyler Palmer hammered Garrett's first offering of the third frame out to left to make it 3-0. It was Palmer's second dinger of the year. The 66ers made it 6-0 in the fourth when Palmer tagged a RBI double and Bo Way delivered a two-run single off Garrett.

Bayardi capped the scoring in the fifth when he bashed his second homer of the night and fifth of the year to make it 7-0. Ryan Etsell (7-3) cruised through the first four frames for the 66ers but ran into trouble in the fifth inning as he allowed four runs in the frame. In the sixth Evan Van Hoosier tripled, one of three Maverick triples in the game, to open the inning. He eventually scored to run Etsell's final line to 5.0IP, 8H, 5ER, 2BB, 5Ks. Ronnie Muck gave the 66ers three scoreless innings out of the bullpen with just one hit allowed and three Ks and no walks.

Ryan Ledbetter held the 66ers down for four innings of shutout relief for the Mavericks. He struck out two and allowed three hits. Inland Empire's Geoff Broussard allowed a two-out solo homer to Chris Garia, in the bottom of the ninth but struck out Isiah Kiner-Falefa looking to end the contest and earn his 15th save.

The teams play a double-header on Saturday beginning at 5:30 pm. It can be heard live at 66ers.com.
