Las Vegas Aviators News Release
LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, announced today the radio stations that will carry 51s baseball for the "25th PCL Season" during the 2007 campaign.
The 51s will once again return to Lotus Broadcasting on FOX Sports Radio 1460 AM and will carry live all 144 regular season games. Russ Langer returns for his eighth season behind the microphone. He is a two-time recipient of the Nevada Sportscaster of the Year Award (2003 & 2005) presented by The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA). He has also broadcasted Major League Baseball games with the Montreal Expos (2003-04), Baltimore Orioles (2006) and seven Dodgers Spring Training games.
The 51s organization is also proud to announce that KLSQ 870 AM (Univision Radio) will return for their third season of broadcasting all 72 home games in Spanish. The 2005 season marked the first time in the then 23-year history of the Las Vegas franchise that games were broadcast locally in Spanish. Jose Manuel Santos returns for his third season as the play-by-play announcer. Santos, a multi-talented on-air personality, has been a long time radio host since 1963. He currently hosts a morning show from 6 - 10 a.m. on KLSQ.
"The 51s are a staple of our radio station," Fox Sports Radio/ESPN Radio Program Director John Hanson said. "I'm personally glad this season is here because I love spending my Sunday's listening to Russ Langer. This year my goal is to answer one of his trivia questions correctly."
"We are excited to continue our long standing relationship with Lotus Broadcasting and also to welcome back KLSQ for their third straight season to broadcast the home games in Spanish," 51s President/General Manager Don Logan said. "The game of baseball has always been international, particularly with Latin American players. We've always had Spanish speaking players on the roster. We have broadened our fan base into the Spanish language market."
"We are excited to build upon the momentum from last season," added General Manager/VP Univision Radio Las Vegas Dana J. Demerjian. "Our very own Jose Manuel Santos will again be calling the plays in Spanish on 870 AM Radio Variedades. Both advertisers and listeners have grown accustomed to Jose's unique style of calling the play-by-play.
"We have some exciting Hispanic themed nights planned during the season and we look forward to making this, our third year broadcasting the 51s the best ever."
The 51s, under first-year manager Lorenzo Bundy, will open their 25th PCL season on Thursday, April 5 at Salt Lake City, Utah against the Salt Lake Bees, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Las Vegas' home opener will be on Friday, April 13 against the Bees at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field. Season tickets and mini-plan packages (10, 20, 33-game plans) are available by calling the 51s office at (702) 798-7825.
