Nashville Sounds News Release
The Milwaukee Brewers today outrighted catcher Mike Rivera to the Nashville Sounds roster after he cleared waivers. Rivera accepted the assignment and will open the 2007 season as part of a Sounds catching platoon with J.D. Closser.
Rivera spent parts of the 2005 & 2006 season with Nashville and was voted as the starting Pacific Coast League catcher for the 2006 Triple-A All-Star Game before being recalled by the Brewers last June.
In 18 Cactus League spring training games for Milwaukee, Rivera batted .425 (17-for-40) with three RBIs.
In other transactions news on Tuesday at Brewers camp, Milwaukee outrighted pitcher Grant Balfour to Nashville but the veteran reliever, who missed most of the 2006 campaign following Tommy John surgery, had yet to announce whether he will accept or decline the assignment.
The Brewers also released catcher/infielder Craig Kuzmic from minor-league camp on Tuesday. Kuzmic was competing for a spot on the Sounds roster.
