Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, ON- The Canadian Hockey League announced today that 146 CHL players appear in NHL Central Scouting's Midterm Rankings for the 2014 NHL Draft. From the 146 players listed, 5 happen to be Oshawa Generals; Michael Dal Colle (5), Jacob Busch (120), Hunter Smith (140), Josh Sterk (195) and goaltender Kenny Appleby (33rd in North American Goaltender Ranks)
Dal Colle who is in his second full season as a General is looking to become the first Oshawa General to go top 10 in the NHL draft since Oshawa Generals phenom, John Tavares who went first overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Dal Colle has had an outstanding season so far, whether it was coming home from the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in the summer with a gold medal, participating for Team OHL in the Subway Super Series or putting up 27 goals and 37 assists for 64 points in 43 games this season.
Jacob Busch comes into the NHL Central Scouting Midterm Rankings at #120, this is a first time for Busch getting a rank. The Port McNichol native is in his first season with the Generals. Oshawa selected the 6 foot right winger in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection. Busch who is a gritty young forward has 7 goals and 4 assists for 11 points in 36 games.
Coming in at 140th is none other than #34, Hunter Smith. Since being traded to the Generals last season by the Windsor Spitfires, Hunter has shown nothing but determination to make him noticed around the league. Hunter is willing to stick up for his teammates on a game by game basis but can also put the puck in the back of the net. In 40 games this season, Smith has 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points to go along with his 66 penalty minutes.
Josh Sterk was dealt by the Kitchener Rangers at the start of the season to the Oshawa Generals for a conditional 4th round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection and a 6th round pick in the 2015 OHL Prioroty Selection. Sterk has done nothing but score and put points up on the board for the Generals since they acquired him in September. Sterk has played in 43 games this season and has a whopping 15 goals and 28 assists for 43 points.
Kenny Appleby comes into the rankings ranked 33rd among North American goaltenders. The 6'4 tender from North Bay, Ontario is in his 2nd full season with the Generals. Kenny has posted 4 wins this season with a 3.16 Goals Against Average and a .904 save percentage.
One other notable skater to crack the top 200 rankings is Oshawa Generals 6th round selection in 2012, Kelly Summers. The 6'2" d-man from Golden Lake, Ontario has posted great numbers this season with the Carleton Place Canadians. In 16 games played, Summers has 3 goals and 15 assists for 18 points.
The 2014 NHL Entry Draft will take place June 27th and 28th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
