HC Venom News Release
The Hudson Valley Venom, the Hudson Valley's newest professional hockey team, held their first Free Agent Camp this past weekend at their new home at the IceTime Sports Complex in Newburgh, NY. This camp allows players from all over the region to come show off their skills and try to secure a spot at the Venom's main training camp in the fall.
Head Coach, Josh Newberg, and Assistant Coach, MJ Maerkl, observed the over 30 players for a spot on the Venom. "I was happy with the effort and impressed with some of the talent this weekend. The guys battled in a lot of competitive situations in a short amount of time." said Newberg. "I think the few that we invited to Main Camp will fit right in and help bring our level of play up as we prepare for our opening weekend."
Three players were offered a PTO, or Professional Tryout Contract, to join the main camp for the Venom: Anthony Bellman, Chris Marsillo and Taylor Traenkle. Goalie Chris Marsillo has played in games in the FPHL since 2018 and most recently, was on the APHL Championship team, the Hudson Valley Vipers. The Vipers also serve as the farm team for the Venom. Forward Taylor Traenkle is also a member of the Hudson Valley Vipers after playing internationally the prior two years. Last season, Traenkle was a leading scorer for the team with 31 points. Forward/Defenseman Anthony Bellman played for Syracuse University and this will be his first stint in the FPHL.
The Venom is looking to have another Free Agent Camp prior to the Main Camp. For more information, email josh@hudsonvalleyvenom.com
