Modesto Nuts News Release
Bakersfield, CA. - The Nuts managed just one run-scoring hit in their 3-2 loss to the Blaze on Sunday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.
Juan Ciriaco delivered a clutch two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the second to get the Nuts (4-13, 27-60) a brief lead. From there, the Nuts went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position against the Blaze (11-6, 56-31).
Lefty Wandy Peralta (L, 6-6) started for the Blaze and did not allow another run after Ciriaco's second-inning single. He finished after six innings, allowing seven hits, walking two and striking out five. The Blaze bullpen sent three righties to the mound who all tossed a scoreless innings capped by Ben Klimesh's (S, 4) perfect ninth.
Lefty Jayson Aquino (L, 2-6) was good, but not good enough in his 5.2 innings of work for the Nuts. He allowed a RBI single in the first and a sac fly in the third which tied the game. The go-ahead run came in off the bat of David Vidal when he laced a single in the sixth.
The eight-game losing streak is one shy of the Nuts' longest this year which stretched from May 6 to May 15.
The Nuts will try to avoid the sweep against the Blaze on Monday night with righty Ben Alsup on the mound against righty Mikey O'Brien. First pitch is scheduled for 7:50 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:45 p.m.
