Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates will host the 2nd annual Purple Night for Cancer Awareness presented by Central Maine Medical Center on Friday, March 28th at 7 PM at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The Pirates will wear special purple jerseys to raise awareness for cancer research as they host the Providence Bruins for the final time during the 2013-14 regular season. The special jerseys will be auctioned off on eBay at a later date, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Pirates will donate all proceeds from their 50/50 raffle during that night's game to the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center to support the center's work in providing care for the region's cancer patients. In addition, a Pirates practice jersey signed by movie and television star Patrick Dempsey will be raffled off, with all proceeds benefitting the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing's Maine Fund for Cancer Patients, which helps fund the immediate needs of patients experiencing hardships while undergoing cancer treatment.

"We are pleased to be part of the Pirates Purple Night, increasing awareness about the important services and programs we provide to anyone impacted by cancer. The funds raised will help us to continue to provide all of our services at no cost to cancer patients, as well as their families and friends." said Dempsey Center Executive Director Wendy Tardif.

"Cancer is an issue that affects each and every one of us in one form or another. Central Maine Medical Center and the Pirates are proud to work together to raise awareness for cancer related research and treatment through Purple Night," said Brad Church, Pirates COO. "We encourage our fans to wear purple and participate in the night's fundraisers in the hopes that our efforts support Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing in their missions to provide care, and eventually a cure."

Fans are encouraged to wear purple to the game and to get their tickets early. Tickets are available by calling the Androscoggin Bank Colisee Box Office at (207) 783-2009 ext. 525 or online at thecolisee.com.
