28th Ducks Alumnus Promoted to Major Leagues

(Central Islip, N.Y.) - Former Long Island Ducks relief pitcher Matt Carasiti was recently called up to the Major Leagues by the Colorado Rockies. He becomes the 28th player in Ducks history to reach the Major League level after playing with Long Island.

"We would like to congratulate Matt on making it back to the big leagues," said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. "He is a very talented pitcher, and we wish him the best of luck in this next chapter of his career."

Carasiti made nine appearances in relief with the Ducks during the 2022 season. He posted a 1-1 record with a 1.59 ERA and one save. In 11.1 innings of work, the righty allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits and four walks while striking out 14 batters. He turned in seven scoreless appearances out of the bullpen and struck out multiple hitters in five games.

The 31-year-old returns to the Major Leagues after spending parts of two prior seasons at the game's highest level. He reached The Show for the first time in 2016 with the Rockies, making 19 appearances and striking out 17 batters in 15.2 innings. The Connecticut native later returned to the big leagues with the Seattle Mariners in 2019, pitching in 11 games (five starts) and striking out 10 batters in nine and two-thirds innings. He began the 2023 season with Triple-A Alburquerque, going 1-1 with a 4.00 ERA in 16 appearances before his promotion by the Rockies.

Carasiti becomes the second Ducks alumnus to be called up to MLB by the Rockies after playing with the Ducks, joining Tim Melville (2019). He is also the second member of the 2022 Ducks team to reach the big leagues, joining infielder Deven Marrero (Mets).
