2023 Alouettes Most Outstanding Players: Mack, Beverette, Dequoy, Lestage, Zema and Stubblefield Honoured

Montreal - The Canadian Football League unveiled the 2023 Most Outstanding Players for each team on Wednesday. Receiver Austin Mack was voted the Alouettes 2023 Most Outstanding Player.

Here is the honor list:

Most Outstanding: Austin Mack

Defensive: Tyrice Beverette

Canadian: Marc-Antoine Dequoy*

Offensive lineman: Pier-Olivier Lestage

Sepcial Teams: Joseph Zema

Rookie: Reggie Stubblefield

Most Outstanding Player: Austin Mack

In his first year in the CFL, the 26-year-old receiver put together an impressive season. He caught 78 passes for 1,154 yards and crossed the goal line four times. The Ohio State University alumnus gained more than 100 yards five times in 16 games. The Fort Wayne, IN native, is fifth in the league in receiving yards and ranks fourth in yards after a catch. Mack is not eligible for the Rookie of the Year honour because of the time he spent in the NFL.

Most Outstanding Defensive Player:Tyrice Beverette

In his second season in the nest, the American linebacker elevated his game. He is among the league leaders with 85 defensive tackles and 17 on special teams. He totalled an impressive seven sacks. The 28-year-old recovered four fumbles, two of which turned into majors. He leads the CFL for fumble recoveries. He also registered four knock downs.

Most Outstanding Canadian: Marc-Antoine Dequoy

The 29-year-old Quebec native was a unanimous choice in this category. He is second in the CFL with five interceptions, including two that he returned for a touchdown. The former Université de Montréal Carabin earned 53 defensive tackles and four more on special teams. His agility allowed him to force two fumbles and to recover two. He also added six knock downs.

Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman: Pier-Olivier Lestage

His brilliance on the offensive line allowed quarterback Cody Fajardo to be among the leaders in passing yards (3,792) and touchdown passes (13). The 26-year-old contributed greatly to the success of receiver Austin Mack, who gained 1154 yards on receptions and receiver Kaion Julien-Grant who had amassed 512 yards in only nine games before his injury. Lestage was a starter for all 17 games.

Most Outstanding Special Teams Player: Joseph Zema

The Australian-born kicker participated in all 17 of the Alouettes' games this season. He is third in the CFL in average yards per punt (47.4 yards per punt). His booming punts helped the Alouettes win the field-position battle regularly throughout the year.

Most Outstanding Rookie: Reggie Stubblefield

In just 12 games, the 25-year-old made 37 defensive tackles and three on special teams, as well as adding three sacks. The native of Arlington, Texas, intercepted two passes and is among the league leaders in knocked down passes, with 9.

The award recipients were selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches.
