Everett Silvertips News Release

Kyan Grouette earned a regular role in the Silvertips' lineup his rookie season, blossoming into a hard-nosed checking forward over the course of the campaign. Now entering his second season, Grouette wants to further cement himself as an invaluable member of the Everett roster.

2022-23 in review

While Grouette began the year battling for ice time with other rookies and bottom-six forward options, he would appear in 56 of 68 possible regular season games plus five postseason contests as a 17-year-old. He finished the year with three goals, two of which were game-tying tallies.

"I feel like I grew as a player and as a man," Grouette commented at the conclusion of the season. "It's a very professional organization here and they helped me grow on and off the ice. It was exciting throughout the whole thing. Growing up, I never thought I'd be here [in the WHL]. To finally get that and to get to play hockey every day, it's pretty exciting."

The 5-foot-9, 179-pound forward accrued tough defensive minutes in a grinder's role, working hard along the boards and honing an edge to his game as the season wore on.

Grouette had previously appeared in four WHL games during the 2021-22 season, netting his first career goal during his debut in Prince George on Dec. 28, 2021. He spent the rest of that season with Parkland Rangers U18 AAA, recording 21 goals and 35 assists in 40 games.

Movember

Grouette took it upon himself to raise funds for cancer research and men's health through the Movember Foundation in November of 2022 in honor of his late uncle Chris' battle with prostate cancer. His efforts culminated in $3,050 raised, exceeding his target goal.

Donations came from a myriad of sources, including Silvertips staff, teammates, fans and team alumni.

"Although my mustache was that of a 17-year-old," Grouette wrote in a personal message on team social media channels, "it still brought awareness to a cause very near and dear to my family."

Making the jump

Grouette is now another year older and another year stronger. He will have an ample opportunity to compete for ice time, with a concerted focus on utilizing his strength and tenacity advantageously. Grouette could very well fit in a two-way power forward-type mold, relied on for physicality and getting to the dirty areas to facilitate offense.

"Kyan is a great teammate," Silvertips general manager/head coach Dennis Williams said during an interview last season. "He plays the game right. He's an honest hockey player... We always tell our guys, ice time isn't determined by goals or points, but by playing the game right."

He is one of seven '05-born skaters who appeared in 10 or more games with the Tips last season.
