2016 Opens with a Loss for the Americans

Independence, Missouri - The Allen Americans dropped a 4-1 decision to the Missouri Mavericks on New Year's Day afternoon. Allen has now dropped three straight games to Missouri.

The Mavericks used a four minute span in the second period scoring three times to break open a close game and build a 4-0 lead. Allen's only goal came in the second period when David Makowski fired a slapshot past Missouri goalie Josh Robinson for his fifth goal of the season.

"We didn't work hard enough," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "A couple costly mistakes wound up in the back of our net."

Missouri scored on three of their five shots in that second period. The Americans outshot Missouri for the game 33 to 31. Allen went 0 for 4 on the power play while Missouri was 1 for 2. David Makowski led Allen with six shots on goal.

The Americans return to action tomorrow night against the Quad City Mallards in the final regular season matchup between for the former division rivals. Puck drop from the i-Wireless Center is 7:05 pm.
