Rio Grande Valley Vipers News Release

HIDALGO, Texas-

Eddie Gill in his first game back with the 14ers finished two rebounds shy of a triple-double and James Mays chalked up a season high 37 points as the Colorado 14ers ran past the Rio Grande Valley Vipers 135-121 at Dodge Arena Tuesday night. The 14ers are one of two undefeated teams left in the D-League and are now 3-0. The Vipers loss drops them to .500 at 3-3.

The Vipers could not keep pace with Colorado's blistering offensive pace. Colorado scored at least 31 points in each of the four quarters and shot 54% from the field in the victory. The Vipers fell down by 11 in the first quarter after a Trey Gilder dunk at the 2:46 mark made the score 34-23. The Vipers closed out the first on 10-1 run and ended the first quarter down 35-34.

The pressure would not subside for the 14ers. They outscored Rio Grande Valley 69-53 in the middle two quarters and led by as many as 24 in the game before settling for the 14 point victory.

Mays scored the most points by a Viper opponent this season and he also tied his season high with 11 boards. Joe Dabbert, Gilder and Marlon Parmer each added 16 points in the win for Colorado.

Trent Strickland led the offensive charge for Rio Grande Valley as he tied his season high with 26 points. Smush Parker finished two rebounds shy of a triple-double as he scored 23 and dished out 12 assists. Alpha Bangura also chipped in with 23 points and eight boards in the losing effort for Rio Grande Valley.

The Vipers continue their season opening eight game home stand on Thursday morning as they host the Sioux Falls SkyForce at 11:00 am at Dodge Arena. The 14ers will travel to Austin on Friday for a 7:30 tip against the Austin Toros.
