STOCKTON, Calif. - Down to their final strike in the ninth inning, the Bakersfield Blaze got a game-tying single from Juan Duran to send the game into extra frames. The Blaze went on to hit a pair of home runs in the 11th to hand the Stockton Ports their first extra-innings loss of the season before a crowd of 5,244 at Banner Island Ballpark.

Stockton starter James Simmons, making his first start after coming from Triple-A Sacramento, retired 12 of the 13 batters he faced over four scoreless innings. Blaze starter James Allen kept Stockton off the board for the first four frames, at one point setting down 10 batters in a row.

Jake Brown came on to start the fifth inning for the Ports and surrendered a leadoff home run to Juan Silva, putting Bakersfield in front 1-0. Brown also went on to walk his first batter of the year later in the fifth, ending a streak of no walks allowed over 31 innings pitched.

The Ports got the tying run in the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded and one out, Bobby Crocker hit a sharp grounder to third. Juan Silverio fielded the ball, stepped on third for one out, and then threw across the diamond with the throw sailing high of first, allowing a run to score from third.

The fifth inning runs allowed by Brown and Allen were the only runs they allowed in their outings. Brown tossed two innings while Allen tossed six for the Blaze, allowing three hits while striking out four.

The contest stayed tied 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth. Addison Russell led off with an infield single to short. Shortstop Juan Perez threw wide to first, allowing Russell to advance to second. Max Muncy followed with an RBI single to left that gave the Ports a 2-1 lead. Muncy would be tagged out after taking an aggressive round of first base. Blaze reliever Carlos Gonzalez, who was in his second inning of relief, gave up a two-out single to Antonio Lamas, a walk to Rashun Dixon and an infield single to Phil Pohl that loaded the bases. Gonzalez, however, got Dusty Robinson to strike out to end the inning and the threat.

Brett Hunter came on to pitch the ninth and try and earn the save for Jose Macias, who was in line for the win after throwing two perfect innings. Hunter gave up a leadoff double to Marquez Smith, who advanced to third on a groundout by Steve Selsky. With Smith at third base and one out, Hunter struck out Silva looking which brought up Duran. With the Blaze down to their final out, Duran worked the count full and fouled off a couple of 3-2 pitches before depositing a single to shallow right that tied the game at 2-2. It was Hunter's first blown save of the season.

Wes Mugarian (1-0) pitched around a walk to keep the Ports off the scoreboard in the ninth inning and tossed a perfect 10th. Mugarian would go on to be the winning pitcher in the contest.

After Hunter set the side down in order in the 10th, Jonathan Joseph took over for the 11th and gave up a leadoff home run to Yorman Rodriguez that gave Bakersfield a 3-2 lead. After walking Smith, Joseph gave up a two-run homer to Selsky that stretched the Blaze lead to 5-2. Joseph suffered the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in the 11th.

El'Hajj Muhammad (SV, 4) set the side down in order in the bottom of the 11th, including a pair of strikeouts, to notch his second save in as many nights.

After splitting their four-game set with Bakersfield, the Ports begin a three-game series with the Lake Elsinore Storm on Sunday afternoon at Banner Island Ballpark. Deyvi Jimenez (0-2, 7.71 ERA) gets the start in the opener for Stockton, opposed by Lake Elsinore lefty Frank Garces (4-3, 3.94 ERA). First pitch is set for 2:09 p.m. PDT.
