Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Lancaster, CA - A four-run ninth inning put the Quakes ahead to stay, as Rancho Cucamonga downed Lancaster in the opening game of a three-game set on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar, 11-7.

Lancaster closer Travis Ballew (1-1) inherited a 7-7 tie to open the ninth, but got knocked around for four runs, as the Quakes won for the second game in a row and for the third straight time on the road.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, a ball off the bat of Noel Cuevas shot off the glove of Lancaster third baseman Matt Duffy, allowing Chris O'Brien to score the go-ahead run. After that, the flood gates opened, as Ryan Mount had an RBI single and Angelo Songco capped the inning with a two-run single, making it 11-7.

JonMichael Redding, taking over for Pedro Baez (2-1), who worked a scoreless eighth, pitched around a two-out walk to retire the side in non-save situation.

The Quakes blew multiple leads on the day, as they scored three times in the third to take a 3-0 lead.

After the JetHawks tied the game at 3-3, Rancho tallied four times in the sixth, taking a 7-3 lead. That lead didn't hold either though, as the JetHawks blasted three homers in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 7-7.

Quakes' starter Jarret Martin left with a 7-3 lead, but struggled with his command, walking a season-high six batters in the no-decision.

With two hits on the day, Ryan Mount extended his team-high hitting streak to 15 straight games.

The Quakes (22-21) are still 3 ½ games behind first-place Inland Empire in the South Division, but have pulled to within two games of second-place Lancaster. Duke Von Schamann (5-1) will look to keep Rancho's win streak alive on Monday night, as he'll be opposed by Lancaster's Tyson Perez (1-2), with first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm from the Hangar.

On Thursday night, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for another Thirsty Thursday promotion. Game time will be 7:05pm and tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
