LAST WEEKS HIGHLIGHTS

Vs. Providence

Center Oscar Moller stole the show late in the third period as he buried the puck five-hole on a penalty shot to give the Manchester Monarchs their fifth consecutive win of the season, a 2-1 victory over the Providence Bruins at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Right wing John Zeiler added on to Mollers goal for the Monarchs. Left wing Guillaume Lefebvre scored his first goal of the season and the only tally for the Bruins. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier earned his sixth win of the season stopping 28-of-29 shots he faced in the game. Bruins netminder Dany Sabourin took his third loss of the season stopping 21-of-23 shots. Manchester went 0-for-4 on the power play. Providence was 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Vs. Worcester

Manchester Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff made 44 saves in the home teams 4-1 victory to spook the Worcester Sharks on Halloween night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Center Corey Elkins, center Justin Azevedo, defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov and right wing Brandon Segal scored for the Monarchs. Sharks forward Dean Strong tallied the lone goal for the visitors. Zatkoff collected his third win of the season stopping a Monarchs season-high 44 shots from the opposition. Sharks netminder Alex Stalock stopped 27-of-30 shots from the Monarchs for his first regulation loss of the season. Manchester and Worcester were both 0-for-3 on the power play.

At Hartford

Center Corey Locke picked up three points including the game-winning goal with one second remaining in overtime as the Hartford Wolf Pack narrowly edged the Manchester Monarchs, 3-2, at the XL Center on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs six-game winning streak came to an end but they still remain undefeated in regulation games) and undefeated at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov and left wing Richard Clune scored for the Monarchs. Defensemen Bobby Sanguinetti and Ilkka Heikkinen also tallied for the Wolf Pack. Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier took his first overtime loss of the season stopping 27-of-30 shots. Wolf Pack netminder Chad Johnson earned his fourth win of the season with 33 saves. Manchester went 1-for-6 on the power play. Hartford was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs 19 points) picked up five of a possible six points in three games over the last weekend to move them into a first place tie in the AHL with the Rochester Americans 19 points). In the Atlantic Division, the Monarchs lead the second place Worcester Sharks 15 points) by four points.

Monarchs are undefeated at the Verizon Wireless Arena this season winning all six of the home games that they have played. Sundays overtime loss to Hartford ended the Monarchs winning streak but they have gained at least one point in each of their last seven games.

The last time the Monarchs lost in overtime, prior to Sundays 3-2 loss to Hartford, was a 4-3 loss to Providence on March 14, 2008.

The Monarchs penalty kill ranks second in the AHL. They have only given up three goals when their opponent has been on the power play in 57 attempts.

Manchester has been outshot by their opponent 10-of-12 games thus far this season. The two games that the Monarchs led in the shots category was their 6-1 victory over the Springfield Falcons on October 18 at the Verizon Wireless Arena and a 3-2 overtime loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday, November 1 at the XL Center.

The Monarchs have given up the lowest number of goals to their opponents in the league. Monarchs goaltenders Jonathan Bernier and Jeff Zatkoff have stopped all but 17 shots they have faced this season.

Adding two assists over the weekend, rookie center Andrei Loktionov moved into the Monarchs lead for points with 12 He also leads the team in goals scored with five and plus/minus with a plus-10. His plus-10 rating also leads the AHL.

Loktionovs 12 points also lead the AHLs rookies. He is the only rookie amoung the top 15 leading scorers in the AHL. His 12 points are tied for 10th.

Right wing Scott Parse was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Friday, October 23 and made his NHL debut on Saturday, October 24 in Phoenix against the Coyotes. He collected his first NHL point, an assist, in his debut and then tallied his first NHL goal in the Kings 2-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, October 29. Parse has three points in four games with the Kings.

Parse ranks second on the Monarchs in scoring with 11 points and his nine assists lead Manchester.

Parses nine assists are tied for sixth place in the AHL with Rochesters Chris Taylor and Hartfords Corey Locke.

Parse was on a three-game assist and point streak with four assists and six points prior to his call-up on Friday, October 23.

Parse is tied for second on the Monarchs with center Oscar Moller in the plus/minus category with a plus-8.

Moller and right wing Brandon Segal are tied for third place on the Monarchs roster.

The second-year pro scored a penalty shot goal in Fridays 2-1 win over the Providence Bruins on Friday night. The last time the Monarchs had a penalty shot was April 4, 2009 against Worcester when left wing Matt Moulson failed to score against goaltender Thomas Greiss. The Monarchs last scored on a penalty shot on February 26, 2005 when center Matt Ryan scored against Hartfords netminder Steve Valiquette. All-time, the Monarchs have scored five goals on 26 penalty shots.

Mollers penalty shot goal on Friday served as the game-winner giving him three game-winning goals which is tied for first place in the AHL.

Segals five-game point streak came to an end as Hartford held him off the scoreboard on Sunday. He collected seven points during the streak

Left wing Bud Holloway is tied with Moller for the Monarchs second leading goal scorer with four goals.

Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov is on a three-game point streak having collected two goals and an assist since Friday, October 30.

Center Justin Azevedo tallied his first goal of the season in Saturdays 4-1 win over Worcester. He was credited with the game winner.

wing Richard Clune also scored his first goal of the season this weekend as he tallied in Sundays overtime loss to Hartford.

Bernier has a record of 6-2-0 in his first seven games of the season. His six wins are tied with Rochesters Alexander Salak, Manitobas Cory Schneider and Abbotsfords Leland Irving for first in the AHL.

The second-year netminder is tied for the AHL lead with Lowells Mike McKenna and Hamiltons Curtis Sanford with two shutouts each.

Bernier is ranked fifth in the league with a 1.49 goals-against-average and is ranked third with a save percentage.

Zatkoff leads the AHL with a goals-against-average and a save percentage. He has a record of 3-1-0 in four games with one shutout.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Youth Hockey Practice Two Monarchs players will be assisting the coaches of the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs as they run practice on Tuesday, November 3 from 4:50-8:10 p.m. at Tri-Town Ice Arena in Hooksett.
