November 2, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release

In their first-ever meeting, the Manitoba Moose dropped a 3-1 decision to the Norfolk Admirals in front of 5,722 fans at MTS Centre on Monday night. The clubs will face each other in a rematch tomorrow night. Matt McCue scored his first of the season with Manitoba's only goal while goaltender Daren Machesney stopped 25 of 26 shots in his fourth consecutive start.

The visiting Admirals opened the scoring a mere 1:29 into the game. Martins Karsums flew down the right side of the ice and fired a shot on goaltender Daren Machesney creating a rebound in the slot. Ryan Craig snapped up the loose puck and batted it into the empty cage to put Norfolk on top, 1-0.

Moose center man Dusty Collins was penalized for slashing at 8:25, but the Moose managed to escape the two-minute disadvantage unscathed as Norfolk wasn't able to register a single shot on net.

At 11:31 Manitoba earned the equalizer. With a feed from behind the net, courtesy of Tommy Maxwell, Matt McCue fired the puck off the doorstep and past Dustin Tokarski to knot the game at one.

After 40 minutes of play, Manitoba was beating Norfolk in the shot department, 20-12, but the game still remained tied.

With Marty Murray serving time for hooking, Norfolk benefited from their second powerplay early in the final frame. Machesney stopped the initial blow, but Brandon Bochenski wrapped the puck around the sprawled goaltender to put his club in a 2-1 lead.

The third period featured even play at both ends of the ice. With a minute left in regulation time, Manitoba pulled Machesney and opted for an extra attacker. Admirals centre Paul Szczechura stole the puck from Manitoba's offence and confirmed a 3-1 victory for the visitors with an empty net goal.
