July 3, 2018 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
This July 4th will be an extremely special day for a little boy from Quarryville, PA whose passion is to honor and support family, friends and all others that serve in the military. At only 10-years-old, Keith Wagner will be singing God Bless the USA in front of a stadium of cheering fans at the Lancaster Barnstormers baseball game. In addition, to having the honor to sing in celebration of our nation's 242nd anniversary of Independence, Keith will be most honored to share the day with his hero's family - the hero who gave him the gift of life .
Keith received his life-saving kidney transplant when he was just six years old at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware.
Both Keith's family and his donor family began corresponding through an anonymous letter writing process overseen by Gift of Life Donor Program, which coordinates the organ donation and transplant process. Once families have corresponded for about a year, Gift of Life's Family Support Services department will facilitate a meeting, if both families express strong desire to meet.
Markita Lewis, of Philadelphia PA, decided to donate her son's organs when he passed away four years ago at the age of 13. Marquis' organs were in turn able to save three young boy's lives; one of those young boys was Keith Wagner. Since then, Markita has dedicated herself to working as a tireless advocate for Gift of Life Donor Program and to educating others about the life-saving power of donation.
