Daytona Tortugas News Release

Melbourne, FL - Thursday's hero, Avain Rachal, homered for the second straight game, as the Daytona Tortugas pounded the Brevard County Manatees, 10-4, at Space Coast Stadium Friday night. Angelo Gumbs had three hits, while Taylor Sparks drove in three runs for Daytona's second consecutive win.

The Tortugas struck first, for the second straight game, getting on the board before Brevard had a chance to bat. With two outs in the first, Aristides Aquino singled to left, before coming in to score on an Angelo Gumbs double into the right field corner.

Daytona broke it open in the third, scoring five times and never looking back. The first three Tortugas reached against starter Zach Hirsch, before Sparks drove them all in with a double into the left field corner, clearing the bases. Rachal followed with a two run bomb beyond the fence in left-center field to cap off a five run frame. It's the first time Rachal has homered in back-to-back games in his four year career.

After retiring the first eight batters he faced, Tyler Mahle allowed Brevard to get on the board in the fourth. Following a walk and a hit batter, George Iskenderian cracked the scoreboard with a double to center field to score the two. Brevard would add another later in the inning on an Angel Ortega single to center against reliever Seth Varner.

Garret Boulware got two of the runs back with a home run beyond the left field fence, and out of the stadium, in the top of the fifth. It was his first hit in a Tortuga uniform.

Brevard scored their final run on a Fidel Pena home run in the sixth.

Daytona tacked on some runs of insurance with a Blake Butler sacrifice fly and a Jonathan Reynoso RBI single in the seventh inning.

RHP Tyler Mahle couldn't get through the fourth inning in his first Tortuga start. LHP Seth Varner replaced him and earned the win for his three innings of relief, allowing one run. LHP Zach Hirsch took the lost, allowing seven hits and six runs in three innings.

The Tortugas return home Saturday night, when they welcome back Brevard County for game three of the series. First pitch is schedule for 7:05 PM, with the Chili's pregame show beginning at 6:50 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
