Calgary Roughnecks News Release

When the Roughnecks take on the Edmonton Rush on Saturday, they are not only playing for the win, but also for the Right To Play. The game on January 29 will be held in support of the 'Right to Play' and 'Kids Up Front' organizations. In November 2010, Calgary Roughnecks players Kaleb Toth, Andrew McBride and Mike Carnegie officially became Athlete Ambassadors for Right to Play, one of the leading international humanitarian and development organizations utilizing the power of sport and play to build essential skills in children and thereby drive social change in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the world. The three Roughnecks players are honoured to be among the 350 athletes from 51 countries representing Right to Play. Saturday's game will feature a special half time show focusing on the two organizations. Although the Roughnecks began the season with a pair of wins, the loss dealt to them this past Saturday has put the team at an even 2-2 record on the season.

The Calgary Roughnecks suffered a 19-14 setback to the Washington Stealth on Saturday night in front of 9,362 fans at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Luke Wiles had five goals and four assists to lead the Stealth attack as Washington avenged a 13-11 loss to the Riggers at home in Everett, Wash., on Jan. 9.

Scott Ranger scored four times and set up two others in a losing cause for the Roughnecks, while Kaleb Toth had a hat trick and two helpers. Toth's second goal of the game was the 300th of his National Lacrosse League career. The Roughnecks will look to return to their winning ways next weekend with a home-and-home series against the Edmonton Rush. The Rush have had a difficult start to the season, dropping 3 straight in as many games. It is expected that the Rush will come out in full force for the upcoming series in order to capture their first win of the season during their home opener on Friday and salvage any playoff hopes. The Riggers hold a 12-4 advantage over their provincial rivals based on all-time regular season play. The Riggers will travel north to face the Rush in Edmonton on Friday night (7 p.m.) before returning home to the 'Dome for a rematch on Saturday (7:30 p.m.) Media are invited to attend Thursday's Press Conference to discuss the points outlined above, as well as any other inquiries. Food and refreshments will be supplied by Gabz Coffee House and will available during and after the conference.
